This series of “prints” follows an ongoing interest in creating alternative methods of process in my work. Although traditional acts of process – artists acting on media (fastening, sewing, folding and fusing) are important, in this series there are also non-traditional system of processes in place where forces of materials are acting on each other; metal being changed by oxidation, oxidizing steel changing paper, etc. The ambiguity and randomness of these acts is an important aspect of the work. Like the blood painting (link), the results of these chance encounters is often reminiscent of macro-micro relationships, (a magnified image of a head of broccoli looks like a satellite image of a rain forest). The drips and streaks of oxidation on the metal panels, and the patterns created by the “growing” formations of iron oxide on paper are viscerally natural and can be reminiscent of landscape areal photography, animal hides or cellular structures.
